As we move into the fall season, it is important to maintain a healthy lawn. Here are 4 tips that will provide your lawn with the care it needs this fall:
- Dethatch your lawn so that you are removing the dead turfgrass, or thatch, that has gathered in your lawn. One of the easiest ways to do this is by raking. If you find that raking is not improving the soil and health of your grass, then core aeration is the next step to provide the ground with the appropriate water and fertilization to improve the roots of your grass and remove the build-up of thatch.
- Remove the bulk of leaves that gather on your lawn. Leaves should not sit on your grass during the winter season. This will make it extremely difficult for your lawn to receive necessary water and fertilization.
- Correct the pH of your soil if your lawn is looking unhealthy. Testing your soil will tell you if you need to reduce the acidity or alkalinity. If the alkalinity needs to be lowered, then you will need to apply sulphur.
- Take care of your lawn equipment. After your last mowing, be sure to drain old gas from your mowers and other lawn equipment that uses gasoline or gasoline and oil mixtures.
